Greetings from my Millbrook Studio!
This is just a short note to let you know that I will be exhibiting at the One of a Kind Show at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago from Thursday December 3rd to Sunday December 6th. I’ve had a busy and productive year exhibiting throughout the country and I was thrilled to again win some awards at these shows. The last few months have been especially busy finishing up an exciting new body of etchings which I will be bringing with me to Chicago. At the ONE OF A KIND show you can find me in Booth # 2061 www.oneofakindshowchicago.com To get your free tickets to the show, click here. Greetings from my Millbrook Studio! This is just a short note to let you know that I will be exhibiting later this month in Maryland at the Waterfowl Festival in Easton and at the Sugarloaf Craft Festival in Gaithersburg. I have had a busy and productive year exhibiting throughout the States and I was thrilled to win some awards at those shows. The last few months have been spent finishing up an exciting new body of etchings and I will be bringing them with me to exhibit. It’s always a treat for me to come down to the Eastern Shore and the Baltimore area because usually it’s warmer than home at this time of the year, but not this year. As I write this, outside my studio the skies are blue, there is a slight breeze and it’s 70 degrees! If I wasn’t so busy preparing for these shows, I would happily be out paddling my canoe. At the WATERFOWL FESTIVAL you can find me at the Armories. www.waterfowlfestival.org At the SUGARLOAF CRAFT FESTIVAL I will be back in space # 186 in building #2. www.sugarloafcrafts.com Pictured above is Rendezvous. It is 21″ x 36″ framed. Below are two more of my new etchings, one of which is from Talbot County. At the bottom is my studio as it looks now in the midst of my final preparations to hit the road. Leo in the upstairs studio picture is anxiously waiting for his walk in the woods. I hope to see you at a show soon and send you my best wishes.
George Greetings from my Millbrook Studio. This is just a short note to let you know that i will be exhibiting at the Common Ground Birmingham Street Art Fair this weekend, Saturday September 19th from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday September 20th from 10 am to 5 pm. It is held on South Old Woodward between Maple Road and Frank Street in downtown Birmingham. At the show, I will be in Booth #144. http://www.theguild.org/ I was so happy to take the last few months off from exhibiting to spend time gathering images, working on our wonderful property and producing a new body of artwork. Some of those etchings are shown here and in the studio picture you can see two new large triptychs which I am about to watercolour. I will have all my new etchings up on my website next week, so please revisit my website then. Posted at the top is a one of my new etchings. Title: On The Beach, Framed Size: 16″ x 36″, Medium: Etching, aquatint and watercolour.
I hope to see you at the show and send you my best wishes. George Summer greetings from my Millbrook Studio! I am off again next week to exhibit in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Up until last year, it was unbearably hot at the show. I am hoping this will be a repeat of last years perfect temperature and sunny skies and purported attendance of 500,000 people. Hard to believe. I returned a few weeks ago from shows in Milwaukee and Des Moines. I was thrilled to be an award winner at the Lakefront show in Milwaukee and while I was there I had a chance to visit the recently acquired extensive collection of my work hanging at Dolmen Life Sciences in the Third Ward. Another treat was to visit one of my etchings, purchased last year, and hanging in a Frank Lloyd Wright designed house. Pictures of these are below, as well as one of an enthralled audience at a printmaking demonstration I was asked to do at the Des Moines Arts Festival. Click on a cropped image below to see the full frame and scroll through them. I am really looking forward to exhibiting again at the South University Art Fair in Ann Arbor, I hope the weather will be as glorious as it was last year. As a special treat, I will be bringing with me for sale some of my favourite etchings from my personal archives.
At the show, I will be in Booth #E70. In May, a cousin of mine was married in London. Evelyn, the boys and I attended and also took the opportunity to spend a week on the Isle of Wight. Here is a picture from the trip: I recently returned from my Texas shows and although this is the violent storm season there, somehow the clouds parted above for each of the four shows. I feel fortunate to have escaped them and as a result attendance was good and I did well. It was great to see my friends and collectors again. Click on a cropped image below to see the full frame and scroll through them. I was also happy to receive the Artist Award of Distinction at the Art in the Square in Southlake Texas. Evelyn in response said she always knew I was distinctive, but I’m not quite sure if this was the way she meant that. I’ve included a few pictures from my trip. A few are of the wonderful wildflowers growing everywhere which is one of Lady Bird Johnston’s inspired gifts from when LBJ was president. Texas was home for them. Damming the Colorado River which runs through Austin to create the much appreciated and used Town Lake was another. No, this is not the Grand Canyon Colorado River. There are pictures of some of my favorite local food; a big plateful of crawfish and a catfish and shrimp sandwich. Yum. There’s a ‘real art’ vending machine located at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio (a great idea), odd turbulent clouds which spared me their high winds hail and rain, and some roadside trees. I’m back in the studio now, catching up with orders but sneaking out occasionally to give Evelyn a hand with the spring yard and garden clean up, and I’m really looking forward to returning to Michigan to exhibit later this week. It certainly is an enjoyable busy time of year for me.
Wishing everyone a happy spring! I’m busy back in the studio this week before returning to Texas for my remaining spring exhibitions there. Here’s a picture of me enjoying the perfect weather at the Bayou Art Festival in Houston last weekend. Russ McBride, a friend of mine just sent me a picture (above) of my wonderful 13 foot canoe which he is restoring in his workshop. I couldn’t resist posting it here. The old canvas has been removed for replacement and you can see his intricate inlay of the cedar planks, gunnels and ribs to replace the rotted bits. I’ve had this canoe for over 35 years and with it have shared countless adventure filled days on the water; from the wilderness lakes of Algonquin Park to the rapids of the French River which lead into Georgian Bay. I’ve carried it over steep rocky portages in black fly season and sat drifting in it to watch countless sunsets while being serenaded by loons. I’m so excited to paddle this refurbished old friend again this summer. Also posted here is my watercoloured etching and aquatint called Evening Flight which is 17”x46” framed. It and another etching of mine called Sign of Spring has been accepted into the prestigious Art of the Animal Kingdom XX at the Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont which is held from June to August 2015 . They will be hosting a gala anniversary exhibition opening reception (and weekend for the invited exhibiting artists) as well as producing a full catalogue of the show. I’m looking forward to attending. Wishing everyone a happy spring and I hope to see you at one of my shows.
March 27 – 29 BAYOU CITY ART FESTIVAL Houson, TX April 9 – 12 MAIN ST FORTH WORTH ARTS FESTIVAL Fort Worth, TX April 18 – 19 FIESTA ARTS FAIR San Antonio, TX April 24 – 26 ART IN THE SQUARE Southlake, TX
There is still lots of snow on the ground here and as I head south, I enjoy being catapulted into spring, especially to arrive to the blossoming wildflowers and trees. I have added two new shows in Texas and I am really looking forward to exhibiting in them.
At the BAYOU CITY ART FESTIVAL MEMORIAL PARK I will be in Booth #67. At the MAIN ST FORTH WORTH ARTS FESTIVAL you can find me in Booth #729. At the FIESTA ARTS FAIR I will be at the Southwest School of the Arts – Ursuline Campus At the ART IN THE SQUARE I will be in Booth #C10. Posted above is my etching of sunlight spilling through cedar branches and onto a cluster of ferns. I love the contrast and colours in it and it certainly gets me primed for spring. Title: Forest Grove, Framed Size: 30 x 40 inches, Medium: Etching and aquatint with watercolour. Looking forward to seeing you. With best wishes, George I was happy to receive this VIP purchase award at the Toronto Artist Project last weekend (see below). In spite of the snow storm on Saturday it was a good show and it’s so nice to be able to exhibit close to home. I’m off to my Texas shows in three weeks and just finishing up some new large etchings to take with me. I’ll post them when I get them done. The days are longer now and the bitter deep freeze here has eased somewhat. Today the sun feels a bit warmer and it is a perfect day for a long dog walk with Leo, seen sitting patiently at the top of our driveway, ready to go. ARTIST PROJECT – Contemporary Art Fair |
